Sam was born in Seoul, South Korea, moved to Birmingham, England at age three, and finally immigrated to St. Louis, Missouri at age five. From there, he would move 3 more times before spending his teenage years in the Chicago northwest suburbs. He received his Bachelor of Bachelor of Arts in History and in Sociology at Indiana University Bloomington. Before joining the RCC staff as the youth pastor, he worked at JES Island early education and served as a full-time volunteer in Emmaus College ministry in Seoul.
Sam is married and met his wife, Jennifer, in 2009 while attending IU, and married in 2017. Currently, he is in his last year at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School for a Master of Divinity.
